    Elsom ruled out of rematch

    Elsom ruled out of rematch

July 27, 2008 AUSTRALIA flanker Rocky Elsom will miss next Saturday's Bledisloe Cup rugby re-match against New Zealand with an injury.
The powerful flanker has a ligament strain in his foot and apparently carried it into last night's 34-19 win.

The selectors will review Elsom's condition following next week's match in Auckland.

Hugh McMeniman is among the candidates to replace him in the starting line-up.

The only other injury doubt is prop forward Ben Alexander, who was injured in a club game.

Oh dear, Elsom has been a huge influence for the Wallabies, time to step up Brown to the bench!! Although I think McMeniman will take priority.

McMeniman's ok to provide bench cover but Brown is a much better back-row player & that's key to who starts (& plays the majority of) the match.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

doubt it will be Brownie, whoever replaces Elsom will have to be a third jumper as well, so its either going to be Mcmenimen or Mumm, if Brownie were to come into the side he would be coming in as a number8

massive blow to the wallabies as Elsom has been in awesome form.
mcmenimen and mumm are the obvious replacements but with the pace of the game surely Brownys mobility is something that will be considered by the selectors ....

Rocky is a great player and I think there will be a definate gap now that he is gone, but Brownie is a great back-rower in the scrum and play at 6 or Robbie can do a re-shuffle and put him at 8. He has to make it to the bench atleast. He is quite like Rocky in that he has the mongrel(for want of a better word) necessary to take on a side like New Zealand. I think Robbie will give it to Brownie, he has been a part of the training squad but hasn't been given an opportunity yet...the time is now for Brownie!

did my comments get completely ignored?

they will need the blindside flanker to act as a third jumper, Brownie is to short, i will bet my house on it being either Mumm or Mcmenimen. Also i doubt he will make the bench either, they arent going to drop Waugh off the bench.

You will find that brownie is often used as a jumper in the Force combination with "talls" lifting him....no problems there..adds a bif of variation.

No, I just gave my opinion.

I think they have enough jumpers with Horwill and Sharpie, they have been fine with those too so far and I think they can cope with those two for longer. McMenimen or Mumm can still be on the bench but they need someone to fill the jersey that will be vacated by Rocky and I think that Brownie is the one for the job.
