You know an election is on the way....................

I got home and checked the mail to find propaganda for the Labor candidate in my area, looks like I am in a new seat or they have moved the electoral boundaries. I'm sure you will all be recieving mail of this sort if you haven't allready. I suggest you speak to your respective candidates about the stadium situation

How the hell are you going to send any messages to anyone that you think Alan Carpenter's spend-fest is a painful joke.

Enrol, then vote for whichever candidate in your electorate supports a dedicated rectangular stadium....let's face it, the Liberal party are in trouble....Troy Buswell remains leader for as long as he has because they don't think they've got anyone better. The greens, Independents etc even if they get a seat will do very little to effect change but you can send a message, and maybe put an independent or greenie or something else in your seat to tweak the balance of power our way.....If you don't bet you can't win!

Agreed - however if you read other threads - you would find that the new stadium doesn't actually cut the mustard (follow the rules for commonwealth stadium standards) so like many other things in WA the whole thing is turning into a joke

The good news is - it might make them think about doing things a different way - especially if the whole stadium issue becomes an election issue. It really looks like Carpenter - current PM is being set up for a fall, guessing that the maths is wrong and they are trying to make this new stadium look financially viable in some way

Or maybe Carpenter knows something we don't know about whether Rugby will take up residence at the stadium.....or is that just wishful thinking?

    Such as:
    * Assuming all international cricket would be played there???
    * Assuming 3Twenty20 matches like Aus vs NZ would be played in Perth every year? (2 were pencilled in as 'possible' matches)
    * Assuming any Pura Cup Final (where a crowd of 5000 people would be considered GOOD) would be played there (this is the point where I gave up on any rational thought going into these plans)

    This one is a doozy:

*Assuming rugby and other rectangular field sports would attract BIGGER crowds at the MPS than a 35,000 seat dedicated stadium due to 'turn-away effect'??? (28,000 vs 26,500)- Interestly they rejected Rugby WAs proposal for a 35,000 seat stadium that assumed an average home crowd of 30,000 in such a venue as 'too optimistic'.

I left my notes at home today in the vain hope I'd do some real work, but some of these assumptions are frankly ridiculous, and leads me more and more to suscribe to TQ1s theory that the taskforce was formed for one reason- to make the MPS the only option.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Sorry, I have been a bit "broken record" this week- that last point is doing my head in though I try not to hit the 'conspiracy' button too hastily, but I cannot understand how that came to that conclusion unless they were motivated by a pre-conceived agenda.

"No way you'll get 30,000 people to a game at a dedicated stadium, we reckon you'll get 26,500; BUT if you play at a 60,000 seat, bastard multi-purpose stadium, we reckon you'll get 28,000??

That's it, I'm moving to Otago! At least they have an eye on the future when it comes to stadiums!
