It's being reported that the state election will be called today, thus dissolving parliament.


In the immediate term, this presents us with a problem- no more parliament= no more presenting petition to said parliament.

That said, it opens the door to trying to make the stadium an election issue.

We may want to organise a further strategy meeting in the near future to decide if/how we want to play this.

NEWSFLASH!
WA Premier Alan Carpenter has called an early election for the state parliament. Highly placed sauces claim the Premier is running scared after a group of concerned citizens had made arrangements with opposition politicians to table a petition in the parliament. This petition questions the governments decision to build the White Pachyderm AFL Stadium and the disappearance of certain funds which had been allocated for the provision of a Rectangular Stadium.

Sauces were quoted as saying "Carps had to do something to stop that petition being tabled. After his ill conceived red herring about a Commonwealth Games bid he had to get stadiums off the front pages too. There's rumours that these people are giving press interviews as we speak."

Another sauce claimed that there are so many conspiracy theories involving WA politicians, the WAFC and the AFL doing the rounds that the Government is thinking of opening an X File and engaging Fox Mulder as a political adviser in an effort to regain the initiative.

Election set for September

West Australians will go to the polls on September 6.

Premier Alan Carpenter will head to Government House early this afternoon to bring forward the election.

A spokesman for Mr Carpenter confirmed the Premier will visit WA Governor Ken Michael this afternoon at 2.30pm.

well when we handed the petition over last week, Barry House said that the Liberals were putting the finishing touches on their stadium policy and that we would like it so I guess they had better get a move on and finish it.

The johnny howard rules don't apply to state elections?

not sure if it applies at state, but johnny changed the rules last year that you had about 2 seconds to enrol after the election was called (can't remember the actualy time frame but it wasn't long, 48 hours rings a bell)

The (cynical person's) theory was that it was an exercise in keeping young people off the electoral role- that's why we had 4 million ads on the tv last year about making sure we were enrolled.
