    Ashley-Cooper eyeing return

    Ashley-Cooper eyeing return

    By Jon Geddes
    August 07, 2008

ADAM Ashley-Cooper has set himself the challenge of being fit for Australia's second Tri Nations Test in South Africa after having a plate and a couple of screws inserted in his broken hand.

Surgery on Tuesday revealed the Australian fullback had sustained more damage to the bone than originally believed.

"Apparently it was a little bit more complicated than they thought," Ashley-Cooper said last night.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

I don't want him back, he's had his big Australian test for the year like he did last year, I hear Burkey is free.

I think once Mitchell gets a start AAC might find that he is surplus to requirements.

he is our only fullback option at the moment, we need him!
that test he played in sydney was fantastic, if someone can work out how to get a game like that out of him every week he would be one of the best players in the world!

if he played like he did in the game when he broke his hand every game, i wouldn't mind him as a starting fullback.

Agreed, unfortunately, one test a year isn't enough. I'd rather have a consistently OK but not really flash Drew Mitchell on the pitch than a consistently sucky Adam Ashley Cooper who can pull a blinder out of his butt once a year.

At least with Drew you can tell in ten minutes whether he's gunna go OK or not. If he catches the first two balls and makes the first two kicks the way he wants them then he's fine......it's an awful thing confidence!

I bagged AAC for his brain snap on the touch line but having a look at the replay I think the ball was moving when he had one foot in touch. I need to tape the game to see it in slow motion. If it was moving then I take back any critisicm of that game, he is showing alot of promise in the fullback spot.

Not that it changes anything, I can't see any of the current batch of players who can play full back getting to a level near Latham or Burke. Another position that needs to have a specialist like the before mentioned gentlemen.

Greg Martin is like Ian Healy when Gilchrist became the Aussie keeper, criticise, criticise. Yes you played full back, all praise the Messiah.

    PS. Isn't Latham at Worcester?

please no. oh no not Beale. He is no where near Wallaby standards IMHO. Neither is Lachie Turner, but Berrick Barnes did have a shocker first few games, and just look at him now. After next season, or another, Beale may be ready.

    IMHO

Beale has a year of fullback under him, he has a decent kicking game (that improving) and is great in broken play, he may just surprise back there! or he may suck! but he does deserve some thought!
