you would think that they would.
politics should stay out of sport.
like any of that shit matters when they are on the field anyway
    exactly!
its not like when they get the ball they think "what would the government do in this situation"

Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. There was a program on ABC (yep I love my ABC rugby programs) and it was about the tour in 70's maybe and the South African team refused to play. It was called Political Football.

"On the eve of the 1971 tour of Australia by the Springboks, the footballers took a stand and opposed the tour. Their stand gave respectability to the otherwise radical campaign against the Springbok tour. But the footballers' stand was supported by less than 15% of the Australian population at the time, and for all but one player, they would never again be selected to represent their country.

While the tour proceeded, it did so with a level of civil uprising and violence rarely seen in Australia. The games became battlefields between anti-apartheid protesters, police, rugby vigilantes, Neo-Nazis, the church, families."

Showing your age there, FT!!! Don't think they use canes any more in hockey pads.

At my schools, only the blokes who weren't hard enough to play rugby ended up playing hockey.....was that the case with you?!?!?!?! BTW - I've never picked up a hockey stick in my life!!!!

and with the bok's loss last night, it gives this a even more solid platform for a complain.
Isnt there a movie coming out of how rugby has brought a nation together?

I hope the South African Rugby Board realised the time difference between England and South Africa when they rang Heyneke Meyer after the game.

Im sure Jantjes and Januarie could make 19 points difference, if they played then the SA forwards would have heaps more rucks and not given away so many penalties.

Whoever makes up these excuses for losing is racist.

More rucks? The SA forwards were to slow to get to the breakdowns they had, especially when it was an inch from the goal line.

Maybe he should've picked more non-whites as the whitened version of the team didn't really do much good against the ABs!!!

Pull yer head in junior, I did both.
You can do some damage when you are wearing goalie gear, in the end I decided Rugby was the saner option. 22 nutters with wooden weapons is crazy

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

    hockey is pretty dam voilent!
had a mrs a while ago who used to play. so i went and watched a fair bit. some of the facial injuries were astounding!
and then there is the big black bruise that the ball leaves when it hits you.
and the mark the sticks can make.

it looks like a lot of fun though
