There have always been and always will be dirty plays, van der Linde's heatbut would never have been acceptable - but the game is certainly 'softer' than it once was (Whether this is a good or a bad thing is a personal opinion).

There are 'lawful' ways to hurt someone if you really want to - Burgers hits on Smith were soft - no blood, no injury - Smith didn't feel it. Gave me something to yell about at the time, but wasn't significant by any measure.

Maybe, but I wouldn't have thought too many blokes would be yelling out "He touched my naughty bits" if it weren't true.

The DVD set is an astute pick up. The true identity of Shirty the Slightly Aggressive Bear is finally revealed. And it's even more fitting than The Incredible Schalk.

I only watched the game yesterday arvo and noticed...
-JP Pieterson's late tackle on Strilo
-Juan Smith's high tackle on Crossy
-Someone's (I thought it was Pienar but he wasn't playing, so I don't know who) high tackle on George Smith
-Burger punching Rocky in the maul.
-In another maul, Hynes entered then the ref told him to get out and after that -Piere Spies pushed him over.
-CJ Van der Lind's completely and utterly pointless, agressive, un-called for head butt on Cordingley.
    -Burger kicking/stomping
    -Burger punching Smith
-Andries Bekker & Butch James little get together to take out Hynes
-Steyn's tackle...despit the fact he ended up hurting himself his knew he was going in for the tackle at that time, which Drew Mitchell was in the air, thus dangerous tackle Mr Steyn.

oh and just for comedy, when Jantes cracked it when Lote stopped him from getting to the ball before it went out on the full. hahahah

So that's a total of 8 players playing dirty and using unneccessary violence/poor tackling. Claiming that "George Smith was holding onto him the whole time last night
trying to aggravate him, trying to get on his nerves, try to make him snap" is bullocks. How can you know Smith's intention and regardless of whether he was doing it or not, that is rugby...Punching is NOT
Ever heard of what one punch can do...not needed in rugby, it gives ammo to people's claims that rugby is a sport for heathens and that's not something we need. Rugby is a quality game with tremendously skillful players and thats what it is should be recognised as not known because some idiot can't control himself enough to stop punching.

    Thats all.

The intent was there, it was only co-incidental Drew had his knees up. Split second sooner in arriving i reckon Steyn would have been getting a 10 minute rest. Taking players out in the air is a big no-no.

I guess Steyn learned that the hard way by having his nose re-arranged by Drew Mitchell's knee

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Thats all from yesterday but I only got round to posting it today, if I posted it yesterday it would have been much shorter and included different words, maybe even one that Jantjes said.

ooh and I just had tea, literally just finished it

At the risk of being unpopular .....

Of all the so-called incidents that have been stated throughout this thread only CJ van der Lindes is the only one that deserves further scrutiny. The rest is all handbags bullshit. Gamesmanship even.
Whenever i stepped onto a field, i did whatever was necessary to get the win within how the ref at the time was reffing the game.
Its what these guys were doing on Saturday, playing to win by whatever means necessary. It is do or die test match rugby afterall. The Saffas did it and so did we.
As Deans said 'You cant hope to prosper if you don't meet the physacality of a test match'
Personally i thought the game was not as physical as i was expecting from the Bokkes.
Sorry, but if you've never played the game, i don't think you'll understand what point im trying to make.

physicality does not necessarily mean punching and head butting
it means the force of the tackles (legal) and running etc. there are no rules that say 'oh yes if you are allowed to you may punch'
