    Joondalup's Clubhouse Funding Secured

Long Story basically Joondalup Rugby Union Club has been an iterant club for 10 years - currently housed in the BSA in IIluka.

The City of Joondalup hatched a plan to house 4 clubs together in a new clubhouse behind the Joondalup Arena Swimming Pool. The 4 clubs are Little Athletics, Netball and Rugby League.

Yesterday Labour (John Kobelke) announced a conditional offer of $200,000 (conditional on Labour being elected) to secure a start date for the building before XMAS.

Today Liberal will match their offer - details of the announcement as they come to hand.

Really really good news - as both parties have put the COJ under pressure not to reabsorb the initial funds - don't know all the details but after 4 years of haggling - the initial funding needs to used or lost.

joondalup RL works out of what is essentially a toilet block atm
when approached about extensions to the current joondalupRL 'clubhouse' the local govt said they could attach a tiny room to it to serve as a kitchen as long as they pay for it and have it built to heaps of restrictions and guidelines
so even if they do score 200k for a joint clubhouse itll probably be ruined by crap guidelines and restrictions
whats the go with the joondalup RU, what grades do they field teams in?

Just be careful with so called promises for funding of sports facilities from either party. The Libs have promised 500k and 1.4 mill for AFL and soccer facilities down here in Bunbury but it is not direct cash!! Basically is funded through the Department of Sport and Rec CSRFF funding which works on 1/3 cash from local govt, 1/3 from sporting club and 1/3 from state government.

Basically just means that once the application goes through the state govt will rubber stamp straight away. But bear in mind that the CSRFF fund takes about 18mnths for cash to come through and projects cant start until funding is approved.

Hopefully your commitment is a direct cash injection rather than this sort of promises as it has definatetly got some clubs excited down here until they realised they along with local govt have to come up with a third to get access to state govt funds...

my cricket club moved into a new clubhouse last year, to be shared with AFL and the Little Athletics as well. I think it was funded mainly by the local council (City of Gosnells), i think some of the costs came from State Government as they had to get us to move so they could put a technical college up on our old ground. Probably fullfilling a promise from the last election

On the plus side we made $4,000 profit in our first year down there at the new clubhouse. When your club only has about 50 members not a bad effort

Make sure the Liberals match that funding TQ1 ATM they're the only party promising anything to do with a rectangular stadium (still unconfirmed tho)

Would hate you to have to choose between a Joondalup clubhouse and a rectangular stadium in an electorate as marginal as yours!
