That is blatantly admitting the stadium is just for AFL and their fans.

If thats a dark day for footy I wonder how they'd cope with all the crap Rugby has to put up with?!

My point was that the whole time they have been trying to suck up and justify that rugby will be catered for and now that it looks to be getting scrapped, they plead their case by saying its for AFL, its a neccessity. As if that was going to win over anymore people for their case

There are no examples of multi purpose stadia working effectively for Perth’s particular mix of sports. Where convertible seating has been used in Australia there have always been problems with the playing surface and resulting injuries. The Kitchener Park proposal has been demonstrated to be incompatible with a bid for the Commonwealth Games and/or athletics championships . Skilled Stadium on the Gold Coast was built in 1 year to house the Titans NRL franchise at a cost of $125 million. Have another look at the requirements here in Perth and come up with a proposal that is fair to all sports. Then use the money saved for education and health.

Rugby is too much of a minority for them to give a shit.

page 6 of todays West Australian: "AFL urges Barnett to build $1.1b stadium"

And the comment piece by the "Chief Football Writer" Mark Duffield : "It contained no rectangular sport solution, which in turn, requires more taxpayers' money to be spent on another stadium somewhere else."

Heaven forbid money being spent on a project that does not favour AFL

Gotta ask.... what on earth do the WAFC want to do to Subi that will cost $800 million dollars (which is the figure going around, I haven't read the paper today yet)- that was originally the price touted for the Albino Pachyderm. I'm in favour of leaving subi to the cross-country netballers, but not to that tune, there'll be no $$ left for the rest of us.

Why not just give Subi a nice little upgrade, which was what the WAFL were demanding in the first place.

Then with the money left over build a nice new Rectangular Stadium on Kitchener Park.

Everyone gets what they originally asked for and there would be money left over.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

in Mark Duffield's article it says the $1.1b Multi-Purpose Stadium costs $849 million for the stadium and $250 million for surrounding infrastructure, and it says the WAFC plan to renovate Subi was independantly priced at $641 million for the stadium alone.

Where as according to the acticle where the AFL urges the new stadium it says that the task force estimated $300-$400 million for a stand alone Rugby stadium

Yeah but looking into the fine print on the costings, it didn't include all the cabling for technology and media center & fit out of corporate boxes. There is something defiantly doggy here.
Wasn't the Telstra dome built cheaper and quicker(with a roof)??????????

But the WA Unions would surely blow out the costs, I assume Labor took this in mind as they would surely buckle to most of their demands....
