Wallabies to take on strongest Baa Baa's squad ever

Gregan's long time understudy at the Brumbies Luke Burgess is set to go head to head with his former master in December's London Olympic centenary match at Wembley.

In a star studded Baa Baa's lineup that has both Gregan and Fourie Du Preez I feel that Fourie may play this match at 10. The squad will be captained by Richie 'tackles' McCaw and coached by World Cup winning combination of Jake White and former Wallabies mentor cum technical analyst and Eddie 'Steady' Jones for good measure.

In what looks to be the strongest squad to ever wear the blue and white hoops, of those announced so far the team is looking like:

    1. TBA
    2. John Smit (RSA)
    3. Carl Hayman (NZ)
    4. Steve Borthwick (Eng)
    5. Bakkies Botha (RSA)
    6. Jerry Collins (NZ)
    7. Schalk Burger (RSA)
    8. TBA

    9. George Gregan
    10. Fourie Du Preez (RSA)
    11. Bryan Habana (RSA)
    12. Jean de Villiers (RSA)
    13. TBA
    14. Joe Rokocoko (NZ)
    15. Percy Montgomery (RSA)

    Coach: Jake White
    Assistant Coach: Eddie Jones

8 and 13 to be announced - should be interesting to see what Gregan and Jones cook up to stop the Wallabies

david pocock vs sckalk burger- oh i cannot wait!

interesting that burger is in there ahead of mccaw, i would have said they play a simmilar game (avoid all the rules in the book) but mccaw gets away with it better.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

The Barbarians play in traditional black and white hoops, though players retain the socks from their "home" club strip.

Here's the link to Wikipedia about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarian_F.C.

there was talk a few years ago that professionalism would kill the barbarians off, but they have kept kicking on.

The Baa Baa's actually pay quite well to the players who represent in the team, its close to $20-30k for the one game. This game will probably be worth more due to a certain capacity crowd and the high profile of the game.

I have to say that if it wasnt for the governing bodies of the countries around the world releasing there players to play in the game then the Baa Baa's would probably be dead.

I think it's more of a Northern Hemisphere thing really. I remember as a kid to be selected in the Baa Baa's was considered a real honour. When the Baa Baa's played against a players own country the player would play for the Baa Baa's instead, so that says alot.

Here's what's considered the Greatest try ever, Gareth Edwards (welsh legend) playing for the Baa Baa's against the All Blacks in 1973. It is often referred to simply as "That try". YouTube - The Greatest Try of All Time

Can't see the Baa Baa's going anywhere there's too much tradition and funny handshakes involved. Besides crowd numbers will be huge in the NH for the Wallabies game. One thing they like in the NH is to watch the Wallabies lose, not saying that's what will happen but they'll fill the stadium in hope.

The Barbarians should send a touring side Down Under. They couldn't possibly be any worse than the shite we've had to endure from the French, Welsh and English in the last 3 years.

i would love it if they made touring teams to the southern hemisphere play each union once in a tour then have a combined baa baa team from each of the three teams play a one off at the end of it, north v south, pipe dream but would be fatastic!
