The countdown to IRB Sevens Rugby World Cup 2009 can begin in earnest following the official draw for the Pools.

Does anyone know if the ARU is going to prop up the 7s team with a few Super 14 players here and there.

best possible draw for Zim too
with Argentina arguably the weakest of the top 6 being their main rival in their group

Zim, you might be right though depends what team the Welsh take to Dubai.

Not too bad for Kenyans, for them though the issue is consistency..one minute they cause an upset, the next they are the upset. Other issue is the availability of all top players..hopefully that has been or will be resolved and they get enough time to train as a team.

Might see Kenya in the semis at the very least..I'd stake my $100 Trillion note on it (if I had one), aye Zim

I hope so - other countries normally do but we pay lip service to the game here...

I'd hoped that since it'd only be for a few weeks and assuming we don't have an injury crisis each of the S14 teams could 'donate' a player.

Brumbies have plenty of depth in their outside backs and we could release one of our more athletic backrowers like Sam Wykes or Richard Stanford.

I know the Reds and Tahs have had injury problems but a strong academy player could probably really help the 7s team out.

I remember a thread here somewhere that had a few players selected for the 7's squad. DHP was 1?

Yeah, two squad members from each franchise.

I think James meant one or two 'star' Australian players being included in the side though (which we've seen from New Zealand and South Africa at past RWC 7's, and Australia at the Commonwealth Games).
