and the non-sensible world has it as well. I read somewhere that somewhere between 120 and 160 countries use it. This means they are all in the wrong timezone and everyone should just move 1 hour east.

Really though, all this talk hides the real problem, which is that we spend too much time at work. Everyone should have a 4 hr workday (9am-1pm), then go home for a siesta and get up around 4 or 5 then go out. WIN!

An alternative approach is to adopt the Chinese system and just have one time zone for the entire country. If we base it on EST so that in Perth the sun rises and sets two hours later than it would in WST.

Noting that we are not changing the trajectory of the earth around the sun nor are we changing its rate of revolution (has anyone seen superman recently). The only thing we are changing is the reference system whereby we make our arrangments for work, beer, sleep ..........................etc.

In a few centuries (GFC permitting) we will have evolved a whole new range of human species. WA will be partly occupied by sun tanned super beings who sleep when its dark and work and drink beer when its light; and a genealogically mutated species that is of pale complexion and has developed photochromatic eyes that allows it to work when its dark and deal with limited amounts of sunlight before going to bed. The only drawback (for some) is that it's the mutants that will rule because they're the guys that generate and control the wealth.

ok. It's maybe a little bit far fetched. But actually not very far removed from some of the suggestions heard on local radio as to how local businessmen should deal with the time differences in their business.

Why not just have it at GMT+8 then, since all countries use GMT/Zulu/Whatever-they-call-it-now as a reference anyway?

It what I used to use when I was in air cadets all those years ago. We used it because the military were. You might spot it on NCIS tonight too....

Most blokes and many shielas will have heard of 'morning glory'. Research shows this phenomenom is related to the rising of the sun. DLS throws this out by an hour.

Explains the statistical increase in traffic accidents during the early summer hours over the last few years....

im sorry but all this talk of games starting earlier... HTFU folks.. it only happens in March and the first week of April anyway.. 5 games at most before things get back to normal and games at 3:30 are the norm..

Not that it makes any difference to me, as i work 08:00 to 16:30 tuesday to saturday so i miss the first games anyway!

ok you could look at it that way... but seriously missing the first hr of 5 games that may or may not even be western force games doesnt come close to having to wake up at 4am (DS = 5am) 5 days a week for 5months because certain individuals like spending longer at the beach in the evenings....

I get to beach maybe twice a week if lucky.

I live in Maddington at the foot of the hills, no seabreeze, the only thing we get is the easterly that comes overnight. 35 minutes to the beach if traffic is good, which is rare.

First half of the trial I worked a job in a warehouse starting at 5am. Sure I was probably cranky for the first couple of days but you adjust. Slightly closer to the pain of having to get up at 4am? Becasue that was when I had to get up.

Probably worse off then you having to start work at 8am

did you include 2006 in your workings out yet?

Friday night proved that we can lose any time with or without DLS
