    Brumbies lose Chisolm for season

    April 7, 2009 - 10:59AM

Brumbies lock Mark Chisholm will miss the remainder of the Super 14 regular season after suffering a dislocation in his wrist during Saturday's 40-27 win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Chisholm was forced off the field in the 32nd minute after sustaining a dislocated lunate in his right wrist.

The 28-year-old Wallaby has undergone surgery in a Durban hospital, remaining in South Africa to avoid inflaming the injury by flying.

He will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The news pales next to that of the death of forward Shawn Mackay after he was struck by a vehicle in Durban, but Brumbies coach Andy Friend said it would be a blow as his mourning side prepares to face the Stormers in Canberra on Saturday.

"It's very disappointing to lose someone of Mark's experience and capability for an extended period of time," Friend said.

"He's a senior member of our pack, he's an integral member of our lineout and he gives the side great gain line with ball in hand.

The Brumbies are currently eighth on the Super 14 ladder.

"As a squad we'll be doing what we can to give Mark an opportunity to return and play in the finals with us in seven weeks time," Friend said.

Chisholm is scheduled to return to Australia on Wednesday

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
