But why does Ecky need to talk himself out of this (I've just read the title)? He didn't ref. I'm sure Ecky referees game nothing like Leckie did. Why does Ecky need to make excuses for tonight's performance by another ref?

My referees excuse in this case: Sorry it wasn't me reffing the game, but I was busy at Baysie and wasn't invited to ref it.

I have no comments on the refereeing at this stage - when I watch it again from a ref perspective (rather than a supporter perspective) I may comment.

Don't bother commenting Ecky - some of us value your insight into "odd" decisions no-one can defend that performance. Am guessing that he had orders from on high to be so tough on the breakdown. Sad that it affected the outcome.

Peter Blackies comment was the most telling - "the team that doesn't lose it with the ref will win - when the Tahs started swearing he knew that we had won it"
