Wallabies stalwart Phil Waugh will lead the Barbarians against Australia in Saturday night's clash at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Named alongside flanker Waugh in the invitational team is fellow Australian Rocky Elsom, who will line up at number eight.

Rugby league convert Sonny Bill Williams has been chosen at outside centre.

Waugh will go up against his long time rival for the Australia Test No.7 jersey, George Smith.

The Barbarians team includes a third Australian in halfback Chris Whitaker.

The fly half battle might also be a sneak preview of the one-on-one battle to take place in this year’s Bledisloe Cup series, with New Zealand's Luke McAlister wearing the No.10 Barbarians jersey against Matt Giteau.

McAlister, who has been playing club rugby in the UK, will return to New Zealand after the match to resume his All Blacks career.
