Wallabies coach Robbie Deans gave his side’s confidence-boosting start to the new international season a resounding thumbs-up at the Sydney Football Stadium last night.
The New Zealander was rapt with the way his men played as they thumped an outmatched Barbarians outfit 55-7, running in eight tries to launch their 2009 campaign in fairly emphatic fashion.
It was a long way from a perfect display from the Wallabies, who were guilty at times of not making their pressure pay off on the scorebaord, but as far as first-up hitouts went, there was no doubt it was a convincing display.
That was certainly the message afterwards from the former Crusaders guru who was rapt with the positive mindset from his men as they launched their new season with a good degree of style.
"It was a good start. There was some really good stuff," said Deans after his side had led 20-7 at halftime, and took a firm grip on the match over the second 40.
"We were just a little bit impatient and put the ball on the ground far too frequently," he added.......................
