RUGBYWA MOURNS THE PASSING OF SAM HURST

RugbyWA wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the Hurst family following the passing of 17-year-old Sam Hurst.

Sam was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year, and despite his deteriorating physical condition his spirit remained strong and he was determined to fight to the end.

Sadly, he lost his fight last night.

Sam was a member of RugbyWA’s 2008 MBF Forward Pack program, during which time he touched many hearts in the rugby family.

Sam played more than 100 games of juniors for Palmyra RUFC.

Condolences to the Hurst family from all at the Palmyra Rugby Club. Sam was a very corageous and well liked young man during his years in Junior rugby at our club. We are so sad to hear of Sam's passing.

Bugger, I hate stories like this,

Here's to Sam, I never met him, but he surely showed strength and honour beyond his years....Condolences to his family, may his spirit live on in the Palmyra clubrooms!

His father, though a long serving and loyal member of the Cottesloe Rugby club, had a great deal of involvement in Palmyra relocating to Tompkins Park and the construction and financing of Palmyra's club rooms.

At the time Ron Hurst was a senior administrator at the City of Melville, and it was a pleasure and a privilege to negotiate and work with him on our project.

That his son later played there, and enjoyed the use of the facility, is of some comfort and satisfaction to me.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
