First of all Muddy, please don't quote yourself- its bad enough having to read it all the first time. And second of all, if we change that 4 to 5 years or down to 3 years its exactly the same as the amount the Brumbies have lost. Very selective portrayal of the stats.

Agreed. Muddy you are a troll, First of all, the Reds didn't lose JO'C they chose not to sign him due to his size (a mistake as it turns out, but the NRL also made that mistake). Regarding Chapman, he was lost over 3 years ago due to a clash with Eddie Jones. Regarding Moore, he left becuse Mooney benched him for Hardman, when he wasn't pulling his weight - in other words, he was having a bit of a sulk.

Hardly an exodus of players in the last 2 seasons.

However its not as if all the players have left for other clubs (implying a retention crisis). Some were cut, some retired, some have just gone backto club rugby etc.

A large number of those from 2006 were only in the APC and never actually the Reds squad for the S14. I dont think Ryan Nicholas even placed a foot in Australia, so he cant really be counted either.

Also Vaalu and Fetoia are siged for 2009 as far as im aware, yes it has been a high turnover, althogh i think the more damming statistic is that in 2009 the Reds are only going to lose McMenimen from the roster, as far as i am aware everyone else has resigned(bar the obvious trio Hardman, Barnes and Ioane).

So at worst we lose 4, at best we lose 1, thats the kind of retention that helps develop teams, throw in the return of Turinui and the further development of other young players, 2010 actually looks like quite a promising year.

I know everyone loves to believe the media spin, and Barnes delaying his re-signing is a worrying issue, but its hardly a repeat of the 2004-2006 era.

IF they can maintain the current group for some time and get some continuity then it is a great young developmental Squad.

Probably the major point I was trying to illustrate though is that, at an established team that's been around for a hundred years, out of the full Squad Hynes is the only player to have been there for four years and only six others for three as at the end of the season.
By comparison over the same period, the Force have been a development franchise and said to have a high turnover yet at the end of the season we still had 16 who debuted in 2006 and another five from 2007. There has been a bit of a cleanout now however, we will still have nine originals and a four year player going into 2010.
The Reds will have one five year and betwean three and six four years.
But, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck it may yet prove to be a confused swan.

Digby to stay at the Reds, and looks like Barnes will too. It means the only likely loss is McMeniman - not too bad -

    From the Courier Mail -

STRIKE weapon Digby Ioane is set to sign a two-year deal with the Reds which he hopes will help convince Wallaby star Berrick Barnes to do the same.

An upbeat Ioane spoke last night as if a weight was lifting from his shoulders now that he had resolved to stay in Queensland, chase a 2011 World Cup spot and put off any Japanese link until after he had realised his Wallaby ambitions.

"Queensland is the place," Ioane said.

"Berrick said he was going to stay and we need him to.

"He is the man at the Reds."

The loyalty of flyhalf-inside centre Barnes is not in question.

He seems certain to sign another deal to stay on at the Reds, but quite rightly wants clarity on the new forwards coach, team manager and high-performance manager after the recent staff upheaval.

    The rest here -
