Minister tells Bok coach to 'sober up'

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, ridiculed in the media for his muddled metaphors and often outlandish statements, has now been told to "sober up" by none other than the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Makhenkesi Stofile.

Stofile told the Daily News that he liked De Villiers very much and knew him as a good player from his days in Boland, but suggested the more the Springbok coach talked, the more he got confused. (Couldn't have put it better!)

De Villiers had been presenting himself lately as a rugby spokesperson.

"The role of the coach is to prepare the team," said Stofile. "The role of the spokesperson is to represent the union."

Stofile said De Villiers could get away with such things while the Springboks were winning.

"When we are losing it will be a serious problem," he told the Daily News.

"He will be the first to be fired. Coaches get fired for teams not performing, not because they are not doing their job."

The Springboks, who recorded a 2-1 series victory over the British and Irish Lions despite losing the third Test by a record-equalling 9-28 margin, start their Tri-Nations campaign against the All Blacks in Bloemfontein on July 25.

He seems to get confused past "Yes".

Isn't there a pic floating around of PDV as Cheech and Chong?

That is one Jakobus "Kobus" Wiese, and a monster of a man he is. Ex lock - can you imagine the lift?

    Kobus Wiese
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jakobus Johannes Wiese, better known as Kobus Wiese, born 16 May 1964 in Paarl (South Africa), is a former South African rugby union player who played for the South Africa national rugby union team between 1993 and 1996.

He played as lock (1,98 m and 119 kg).

He played in the South African provincial Currie Cup for the Golden Lions (former team of the Transvaal).

He won the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He received a three match for punching and knocking out Derwyn Jones of Wales in the 40-11 win in 1995. Jones was a major line out threat and was knocked cold by a punch from behind in the forth minute of the match. Kobus scored a try in a match but received a three match ban, which suggests strongly that had the officials seen it, he would be been red carded in a home test.

He is now owner of a chain of cafés and CEO of a coffee-roasting factory in Johannesburg, as well as a consultant and TV presenter.

Looks like he has been the quality controller for all the food served in his cafes

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I love Kobus! Way more entertaining than Clarkie and co, without even trying! They have the camera positioned so far away from the commentators so the other guys don't look so small.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

    Kobus is a champ!
In his day, going by Flames post, he was only 4kg heavier than Sharpey and is 2cm shorter!
Also may explain why he didn't have much to say on the recent suspensions handed out
