The CA Brumbies have made wholesale changes to their starting XV to play Bayonne in the second match of their French Tour on Tuesday (Wednesday morning AEST).

Prop Guy Shepherdson and flanker Henry Vanderglas return from their respective suspension and injury to make their first appearances on the tour. Vanderglas, who was ruled out of the CA Brumbies’ 20-12 loss to Bourgoin-Jallieu on Saturday (AEST) with a hip complaint, has been passed fit and will join captain Stephen Hoiles and 2008 Macdougal Medalist Sokai Tai in the ACT back row.

Shepherdson will partner Australian Under 20’s hooker Nathan Charles and Steven Noriega, son of CA Brumbies foundation prop and current Wallabies scrum coach Patricio Noriega, in the front row.

Lock Sitaleki Timani has been promoted to the starting XV after a try-scoring performance against Bourgoin-Jallieu and will pack down alongside Ed Gower, who retains his place in the in the second row.

Patrick Phibbs and Christian Lealiifano have been named in the CA Brumbies halves while Robbie Coleman and Afusipa Taumoepeau will team up in the midfield for the first time since Australia’s 40-6 win over Tonga at this year’s IRB Junior World Championship in Japan.

Francis Fainifo and Pat McCabe remain in the CA Brumbies back three with McCabe shifting to the wing to allow Shaun Foley his first start for the ACT at fullback.

The Bayonne club finished seventh in the 2008/09 Top 14 competition and feature a playing list that includes Italian flyhalf Craig Gower, and Wallabies Rodney Blake and Manuel Edmonds, brother of injured CA Brumbies hooker Huia Edmonds.

    Brumbies go down to Bayonne

    July 29, 2009 - 5:49AM

The Brumbies have suffered their second successive defeat on their four-match tour of France, losing 37-21 to Bayonne at Stade Jean Dauger.

Bayonne, featuring Wallabies Rodney Blake and Manny Edmonds but without Australia's dual international Craig Gower, out-scored the Brumbies six tries to three.

Lock Sitaleki Timani (shoulder) and scrumhalf Nick White (corked thigh) both sustained injuries during the match and are in doubt for the Brumbies' next match against French Top 14 Champions Perpignan on Saturday morning (AEST).

Not so different from our tour last year though. Makes you wonder what sort of team we would have fielded if the Club Competition in Singapore hadn't fallen over.
