(OK most of them are national chains, but many are franchises and therefore still small business)

also evens out the buisness from a saturday as well. saturdays are a bit more cruisy when there is sunday trading. sundays are still pretty slow though

Coles in Alice Springs is open 24hrs. For crying out loud, deregulate trading hours (You're right tragic).

Extended trading hours would be a great start.

...a quantity of people equal to 1/5 of the population of Perth would become Lemmings?

    ...Launceston would follow?

Maybe we should shut down this forum between 5pm and 9am so you can all spend time with your families???

has anyone thought that the survey justification labour gave was based on tainted data?

the big issue i have with that is that everyone can vote on this not just the people that go to the shops on a thursday evening. so if you go to the shops on thursday evening and survey 100 people or what ever it was..quite simply, you're not going to get an honest sample...

now i have no idea what the general population would say but its fairly clear that the members of this site have endorsed it.. and we have a fairly even spread of constituents to make it a more honest snapshot.

They have the results of the 2005 referendum to back them up too. I wasn't here at the time- was that general extended trade or Sunday trade only? Is there a significant difference in public opinion between the two? Of course, they have since supported an extended trade policy while they were still in govenment, which dissapeared in the name of partisan politics this time around.

To answer the original question though, surely no-one at Labor HQ thought asking people in a shopping centre in the middle of the day whether they needed extended hours constituted robust research? Perhaps I'm being too forgiving in assuming they were just being crafty rather than stupid.
