WALLABIES lock Dean Mumm is itching to atone for a disappointing Tri-Nations campaign by helping Sydney University to a fifth straight Shute Shield title on Sunday.

But the big forward will have to grab his redemption from a familiar place, with he and fellow Test reserve Luke Burgess set to be used off the University bench in the decider against Randwick.

Mumm saw very little game time in the second half of the Tri-Nations, which only added to the frustration of a poor season for the Wallabies.

"It's like being dressed up for a party and not being allowed in," Mumm said.

"It was hard not getting much of an opportunity, particularly in Perth and Wellington.

"'You feel like you want to get out there and do something. I'm fortunate to get a chance to have a run around for Uni.

"It will be a very high-standard game, lots of Super 14 players, and it'll be a good chance for a lot of guys to stick their hand up for the end-of-season tour."

Mumm will be one of five Wallabies playing, along with Burgess, Drew Mitchell, Mark Chisholm and Phil Waugh. Also in the game will be former Wallabies Adam Freier, Sekope Kepu, Stephen Hoiles and Josh Valentine.

In-form Hoiles must be a strong chance for a spot on the spring tour, with the Wallabies' No. 8 pecking order now wide open.

Wicks halfback Patrick Phibbs can push to be the third No. 9 for the tour, and Kepu can also stake a claim with a strong outing at prop.
