Brumbies 16's head for National Championships

The Brumbies Under 16 squad will head to Sydney on Sunday to contest the 2009 National Under 16 Championship at Sydney’s Riverview College.

Eight teams – NSW Schools, Queensland Red, Sydney Juniors, Queensland White, Victoria, Western Australia, NSW Country and the Brumbies – will vie for the Rod Macqueen Shield at the championship which runs from Monday, 4 October to Friday, 10 October. The Brumbies boys first match will be played against Sydney Juniors first up with the results determining who their second opponent will be for the Wednesday match.

The side has already played trial matches against Victoria, NSW Country and Sydney Juniors, and will complete preparations for the Championship with a match against Western Australia at Griffith Oval tonight at 5.30pm.

The side features five scholarship holders from the Australian Rugby Union’s National Talent Squad, with Captain Tom Cusack, Lewis Holland, Billy Chalker and Carl Elliot, all members of the program that provides professional weights and training sessions for talented players between the ages of 14 and 18.

i imaging QLD will probably win this, the QRU might not be able to sort out the Reds, but shit they are good at junior development, the last two years has seen qld dominate practically every junior rep side/championship

QLD have won many past years... If i was in Sydney I'd catch some games around the corner at Riverview... It should be a good junior tournament... All the best to all the players and families traveling to watch their boys...

The Queensland Junior Rugby Union U15s and U17s have each beaten their NSW and ACT opponents in an interstate carnival at Warringah Rugby Club in Sydney.

Playing in rain, wind and cold on Saturday, the U15s and U17s each came from behind to beat their NSW opponents.

Backing up on Sunday, the two sides easily beat their ACT opponents to register a clean sweep for the weekend.

Queensland's two Under 16 sides have opened the 2009 National Championships in Sydney with convincing wins.

Defending champions Queensland Red comfortably progressed to the next round by beating Victoria 50-17, while 2008 runners-up Queensland White overcame Western Australia 65-13.

Queensland Red 50 (Mosese 2, Ngauamo 2, Santo, Malouf, Fitzgibbon tries; Taefu 5 cons, pen, Milne con) bt Victoria 17 (Nelson, Faalavaau tries; Puaka 2 cons, pen)

Queensland White 65 (Taliauli 4, Palupe 3, Kerevi, Bell tries; Bell 7 cons, 2 pens ) bt Western Australia 13 (Oliver, Matt tries; Rehutai pen)

In other Division 1 matches played today at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, Sydney Juniors beat the Brumbies 57-19 and NSW Schools beat NSW Country 38-7, while in Division 2 South Australia beat Tasmania 65-7 and National Indigenous beat Northern Territory 78-15.

The championships continue on Wednesday, October 7, when Queensland White will play Sydney Juniors and Qld Red will play NSW Schools.

maybe the brumbies U16 should be relagated to the DivII pool with Tasmania, South Australia and Northern Territory whilst we promote the National Indeginous side.

we beat WA in canberra, it was just unlucky that we did bad in the comp, it really depends on your first game to see how well you go, you could get beat by the best team in the comp in your first game and the best you can do is 5th, but also it did not help that we had a good starting 15 but the reserve were not of the same standard.

Brumbies.... Learn from your results and put the disappointment behind you. You get together with some of the boys and work hard in the off season and during local comp next year... Next year you get another crack at improving the team result.

Nice to see anothjer Brumbies support at TWF....
