South Africans courting Lote

LOTE Tuqiri could make a shock return to Australian rugby fields - wearing the colours of a South African Super 14 franchise.
Speculation on Tuqiri's future took an intriguing twist yesterday when the axed Wallaby said he had been in talks with at least one South African team for 2010. He said NRL was still on the cards, but his camp had been in talks in Cape Town, which is the home of the Stormers.
The big winger, who is also believed to have had a big offer from the Neath-Swansea Ospreys in Wales, is being pursued by several Japanese clubs and he admitted he'd been contacted by Sonny Bill Williams' club Toulon.
"I'm talking to Toulon and I might even be playing against the boys next year in South Africa (in the) Super 14,'' Tuqiri said. "We will wait and see. A lot of things have to happen before that.''
Tuqiri returned to the SFS in commentary duties for the Shute Shield decider yesterday and admitted he was "itching'' to get back on the field. He said he hoped to nail down his futue in the next fortnight.
The chances of Tuqiri remaining in Australia are strong, however. The big winger is a dedicated family man and is keen to raise his kids at home.
Tuqiri hinted he may be looking at a short-term rugby contract before returning for an NRL team next year. The former Kangaroo has held talks with the Roosters and the Wests Tigers.
"There are things that may happen where I have a short stint somewhere and come back to that. There are a lot of things up in the air," Tuqiri said in commentary.
"You don't want to leave Australia. You have everything here, pretty much. You are going to miss out on a lot here, you have family and such."
Wales is a place Tuqiri does appreciate, however. "I have had a chat to them (the Ospreys). That's where it sits at the moment. I have always enjoyed Wales and playing there. It is an option," Tuqiri said. "It is always nice to be wanted."
