It's only a Melbourne team in as much as the QLD reds are a Brisbane team, the NSW Waratahs are a Sydney team et al; Therefore the name should relate to Victoria;

Whom was this fabulous colony named after? Victor Hugo? Victor Lorne-Moerr? Victor Matfield, perhaps? Of course, a girl, Queen Victoria! That's it !!! Herein lies an inspiration for a special and meaningful name; A name not only in keeping with the rich and regal traditions of what is arguably the nations greatest sporting state, but also acknowledging, and paying tribute to, the monarch after which this fine colony come state was named;

A name which also symbolically represents omnipresent power in a game where the tactical manouvres often rival, in complexity, those of a game of chess.

I henceforth propose:

The Victoria Queens;
