His lawyers are saying that there is another side to this story and that he should not be pre-judged.

I hope for his sake that there is an innocent(ish) explanation.

I notice someone has already been at his wikipedia entry....

Born in Waikato, New Zealand, Quade attended Forest View High School in Tokoroa, before stealing off to Australia. Once in Australia, Quade forced his way through the front door and was selected in the Australian Schoolboys squad in both 2005 and 2006 after he stole the show in the 1st XV squad at the Anglican Church Grammar School. Contracted to the Reds after playing for the Australian Schoolboys at five-eighth he has represented Australia at schoolboy and Under-19 level unlocking many defenses. For the past two years he has been locked away in the high performance program working with the ARU-funded National Talent Squad, and representing Queensland and Australian Schoolboys.

Cooper recently became one of three young players to break in to the record books for most Australian schoolboy caps. Cooper's first Super 14 try came on 3 March 2007 when he snuck in to the role as starting five-eighth to play the Lions at Suncorp Stadium. Cooper's alleged first start of the 2008 season against the Bulls, the Reds won 40–8 in a huge upset. In November 2008 Cooper came off the bench to make his international debut against Italy after good behaviour in the lead up games, going through an open window and scoring the winning try to get Australia out of gaol in a 30-20 win.[1] His big time international debut was against England at inside centre at Her Majesty's bequest, resulting in a Australian win. He was judged to be an honest toiler in this victory. He has been part of team selection committees, often picking the locks. On the 6 of December, Quade was charged with burglary on the Gold Coast after returning home from the Australia Tour.

Cooper's memory blank before alleged break-in

WALLABIES and Reds star Quade Cooper will tell authorities he can't remember parts of the night he was arrested and charged with allegedly burgling a residence at Surfers Paradise. Cooper went to ground yesterday as the Australian and Queensland rugby unions began their own investigations into the bizarre incident, which occurred shortly before 4am on Sunday.

Police will allege Cooper broke into a house rented by a pair of foreign students and laptop computers were reported missing. Police later arrested Cooper, 21, and he was bailed to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

The flashy playmaker, one of the revelations of the Wallabies' spring tour, had been at a buck's party on the Gold Coast before the incident and will claim he has sketchy recollections of portions of the night.

Law firm Creevey Russell issued a statement urging the public not to pre-judge their client, who won't enter a plea when he makes his first appearance before a magistrate later this week.

''Given that Quade has been charged and the matter is before the court, we are limited in what we can say on Quade's behalf about the circumstances giving rise to the alleged offence,'' the statement read. ''Similarly, as much as he would like to, Quade is unable to make any comments to the media about the circumstances.

''However, we can say that the investigations that need to be undertaken in this matter are far from concluded and it would be unfair for anyone to pre-judge Quade or to speculate as to what in fact happened both prior to and at the time of the alleged offence. Quade, like everyone else, is entitled to have the circumstances fully investigated and, if the matter progresses to that point, is entitled to a fair trial.''

Cooper did not return phone calls yesterday and his messagebank was full. Similarly, the ARU and QRU both declined to comment, as did Queensland skipper James Horwill.

It was only last week that Cooper was lauded for his brilliant form for the Wallabies in Europe, where he played all four Tests as a replacement for former Reds teammate Berrick Barnes, who missed the tour through injury.

It is not the first time Cooper has been in hot water. He was fined $10,000 by the ARU earlier this year after a taxi window was broken in Brisbane and was disciplined again after a food fight in Canberra.

The fact this incident occurred while Cooper was on holiday and out of Reds or Wallabies camp may be his saving grace given the ARU's ''three strikes'' policy, which controversially claimed the scalp of Lote Tuqiri in July.

Cooper had not been in contact with the Reds by late yesterday afternoon, with the club likely to speak to him today about the nature of the incident.

    Blood tests for charged Quade

By Jon Geddes From: The Daily Telegraph December 08, 2009 11:12AM

THE alleged burglary of a Gold Coast house by Wallabies star Quade Cooper on the weekend has taken another twist with revelations he underwent independent blood and urine tests after being charged.
The Daily Telegraph understands the medical procedures took place immediately following the release of the 21-year-old Test back from the Southport watch-house on Sunday and were not instigated by police.

The rugby fraternity has been stunned by the news that Cooper was arrested in a backyard at Budds Beach near Surfers Paradise at 4am on Sunday after he attended the buck's party of Wallabies teammate Peter Hynes on Saturday.

It had been alleged the door of a house rented by two foreign students had been kicked in and a laptop computer taken.

Cooper has been bailed to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

"Quade was absolutely inconsolable on Sunday," said a friend, who did not want to be identified, last night.

"Today he was just coming to grips with his situation and was in contact with his legal team."

Cooper's lawyer Angelo Venardos said as much as he would like to, his client was unable to make any comment to the media.

"However, we can say that the investigations that need to be undertaken in this matter are far from concluded and it would be unfair for anyone to pre-judge Quade or to speculate as to what in fact happened both prior to and at the time of the alleged offence," Venardos said.

"Quade, like everyone else, is entitled to have the circumstances fully investigated and, if the matter progresses to that point, is entitled to a fair trial."

Cooper is on annual leave following the recently completed Wallabies spring tour during which he was identified by coach Robbie Deans as one of the exciting young players to emerge from the trip.

He is not due to resume training with the Queensland Reds until next month.

A Queensland Rugby Union spokesman said no decision had been made about whether Cooper would be stood down and they would be making no further comment.

And the Australian Rugby Union said they want to get to the bottom of the matter before determining how to proceed.

"We are still looking to receive full facts on the issue and as it is a matter before the courts we are not in a position to comment further," an ARU spokesman said.

In June Cooper was fined by the ARU after being involved in a food fight in a Canberra hotel room.

Two months later the ARU hit him with a $10,000 fine after the window of a taxi was broken while he was skylarking with friends outside a Brisbane nightclub.

ARU and QRU to decide on future of Wallabies star Quade Cooper
    By Bret Harris
December 09, 2009 .The ARU and QRU will make a decision on the future Wallabies centre Quade Cooper before he returns to the Queensland Reds' pre-season training next month.

The two unions have had contact with Cooper, who is on annual leave, for the first time since his arrest on the Gold Coast last Sunday morning.

Cooper, who started at inside centre in all of the Wallabies' four Tests on their recent tour of Britain and Ireland, was arrested near Surfers Paradise at 4am on Sunday and charged with burglary. He was bailed to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

"ARU and QRU are deeply concerned that one of our players would be facing criminal charges in a matter that is now before the courts," an ARU spokesman said in a statement.

"We are endeavouring to find out the full facts around the events of the night and will consider our position before Quade Cooper is scheduled to return to the Reds from annual leave in January."

Cooper, 21, attended Wallabies winger Peter Hynes's bucks party on the Gold Coast on Saturday night before ending up in the Southport watch-house. Cooper has engaged Brisbane law firm Creevey Russell to represent him.

A former Australian Schoolboys star, Cooper made his debut for the Reds in 2007 at the age of 18.

After representing Australia at the under-20 World Cup in Wales last year, he earned selection for the Wallabies tour of Hong Kong and Europe, scoring a decisive try in his Test debut against Italy in Padua.

Cooper was in and out of the Wallabies' 22-man squad this year, but replaced the injured Berrick Barnes at inside centre on the British Isles tour , proving his credentials as a Test player.
