Western Force No 8 Richard Brown is keen to reclaim the Wallaby spot he lost to Wycliff Palu on the Northern Hemisphere tour.
Brown has recovered from a potentially fatal gold staph infection picked up after minor surgery on his left ankle.
"To get my name forward again you've got to play well during the season," Brown said at today's Force training session at McGillivray Oval.
"You've got to earn your spot. There's a lot more football to go.
"I'm feeling good. It's been a quick pre-season for me but coming back from the tour but we've worked hard and I'm looking forward to the season.
"I'm looking forward to getting back into the blue jersey, really looking forward to it.
"It's always good playing with the boys.
"We have a lot of fun, there's a bit of friendly banter between us.
"It's always enjoyable playing with this team."
Force assistant coach Richard Graham said the two trial games in South Africa, a 54-12 loss to the Stormers and 26-0 win over the Sharks, had been valuable for the side's preparations.
"The results were not the reason for going there," he said.
"We wanted to improve certain aspects of our game and we did that.
"The other part of pre-season trials is the team getting to know each other well and that's something we achieved."
Graham was looking ahead to the Reds trial on Friday.
"Any time you play an Australian side there's a bit of spice, but we'll be focusing on ourselves," he said.
"We do need to improve certain aspects of our game going towards the Brumbies (Super 14 opener).
"We'll be using the Reds for that.
"I thought our skill level in South Africa, particularly the second game, was outstanding.
"We were under a lot of pressure, big physical men the Sharks, it's certainly an area we need to continue working at."
