Rugby World Cup tickets on sale in April

    AAP March 30, 2010, 12:43 pm

Rugby fans will be able to snap up the first round of 2011 World Cup tickets on April 27, tournament organisers announced on Tuesday.
There will be three ticket sales phases, beginning with applications for venue and team pool packs, followed by tickets for all individual matches except the semi-finals and finals, with tickets for those to be drawn in a ballot system in the third phase.
The first phase of 750,000 tickets will go on sale from next month - exactly 500 days before the tournament begins.
"This is the day that fans from right around the world can look forward to turning their Rugby World Cup dreams into fantastic memories," Rugby NZ 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden said at a function in Auckland on Tuesday.
The second phase of ticket sales will commence in August or September and the final and semi-final ballots will open in November.
The most expensive venue pool pack announced was Auckland's Eden Park which will cost $NZ1720 ($A1,330) for A category tickets to the five matches, local media reported.
The cheapest adult option is the $NZ80 ($A62) it will cost to attend the two games in Palmerston North and Nelson.
At Tuesday's event, New Zealand Prime Minister John described the 45-day tournament as a "nationwide festival".
Mr Snedden said the Rugby World Cup was expected to pump more than $NZ500 million ($A386.77 million) into the New Zealand economy, attract close to 80,000 visitors and leave a valuable legacy of infrastructure in all the host cities.
"We are in great shape to put on a tournament that New Zealand will be proud of," Mr Snedden said, confirming infrastructure and transport projects were on track.
It was also revealed that a cover of Jesus Jones' hit `Right Here, Right Now', performed by Christchurch band, The Feelers, would be the official anthem of the 2011 Rugby World Cup marketing campaign.
