... and says he'll do the job...

"Jake White tells South Africa to sack Peter de Villiers

Jake White, the coach who led South Africa to victory at the 2007 World Cup, is desperate to replace his successor Peter de Villiers. He said he would be happy to take the job on a caretaker basis and that he has already been in contact with his former employers over the role.

De Villiers is under intense pressure after losing five of six Tri-Nations matches this season and White has been one of his harshest critics.
"I can't bear to watch the Springboks playing like this any more," White said after Saturday's 41-39 defeat by Australia. "I'm ready to do a hospital job and coach the Springboks to the World Cup in 2011 if the South African Rugby Union wants me. I've already made contact with the Saru president, Oregan Hoskins, but he keeps telling me he has to run the idea past the executive council. Well, I'm saying I'm available because what we've seen with the Springboks in the past 10 months is worrying."
