    KWINANA LAUNCH NEW CLUB

With many sponsors, guests and potential new players in attendance, the Kwinana RUC launch on Saturday 29 January at Calista Oval was hailed a huge success by committee members.

In attendance were Emirates Western Force players Willie Ripia and Ryan Tyrrell along with Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams, Local MP Roger Cook and other distinguished guests.
Registrations for 2011 junior rugby union players were taken with plenty signing on for the new club.

A friendly match with the Kwinana senior touch competition and parents taking on the Cockburn Chiefs. Ripia and Tyrrell also joined in to the delight of the players.

The club uniform was also unveiled with burgundy and royal blue as the prominent colours.

The next registration day shall be on the March 12, 2011 at Calista Oval in Kwinana but potential junior players can come down on the junior touch nights - Thursday nights from 5.15pm and/or the senior touch nights - Friday nights from 6pm to register.

Lastly, Kwinana RUC would like to acknowledge and thank all the volunteers, sponsors and guests who helped make the day.

Isn't Calista Oval the base for the south of the river junior competition? A neutral venue?

Now that it will be the home ground for a new club, will the competition be run from somewhere else to make it fair for other clubs? Or will it be run on a home and away game basis?

Me thinks RugbyWA are asking the other junior rugby clubs to pay a high price just to keep some disgruntled ex Rockingham parents out of their hair.

I'm thinking with the new club structure, the disgruntlement in rockingham would be more likely to be amongst the seniors wouldn't it?

Haven't been in the loop for a season though so there might be more to it than I've heard

Same thing happened when Joondalup started - the death of Waneroo but it has worked out. Far better to have another club that loose disgruntled grunts to the game for ever.

Good luck Kwinana - Thank a deity or two I dont have to play or travel there

Yeah, rocko's highly unlikely to buy their way out of it though. That would take
A money that (afaik) doesn't exist in the club And
B a willingness to move away from the traditional amateur model they've hung on to for years.

That's not to criticize the club, the model they've run with has produced both of the Perth born waru raised forcemen, so there's gotta be something good about it!

So when you say "in need of under 18's" you mean a entire team?

    Well done to Kwinana\

Great to see expansion of rugby in Perth.

What other sport is growing like rugby?...........womens pole dancing is about the only competition and they won't be stealing our players.

    Great to see

To those who won't travel 40-60 minutes to Kwinana, give yourselves an uppercut

    Rock on

We'll be in touch to organise some junior fixtures

Under that definition Uni might have something to say about that
Assuming you mean playing SR for the first time for the Force

I'm sure my club colours are showing, but isn't U18 a senior grade and therefore why would Kwinana field such a team as a junior club?

By the look of their website they are fielding Juniors and Seniors (with U/18's listed as a Senior team)
Be interesting to find out how many new players they get on the books and how many were already in the RWA system with other clubs.
I think as both the Code and Perth continue to grow we will see more, not less of these developments. While it may ruffle some feathers and be a pain in the arse to those who have their set routines and own little dung hills, for the WA Rugby supporter it is fantastic to see the good word spreading and more joining the community. Once the NRL get their hooks back into the West we will be flat out trying to maintain numbers.
