    CLUB RUGBY RETURNS TO PERTH

This Saturday will see club rugby make a welcome return to action with eleven of Perth’s top clubs lining up for the inaugural Bankwest Cup.
The four week tournament will see a mixture of KWIK Premier Grade and non-Premier clubs facing off in what will be a great start to the club season.

The tournament was created to assist clubs with their preparation for their 2011 campaign, but also to give the non-Premier clubs an opportunity to showcase their talent and gain a first hand experience of the intensity required to compete at the first grade level.

The games will be played in 4 x 15 minute quarters with this format ensuring some fast and furious Rugby is played, there will even be a number of young Emirates Western Force players competing for their clubs.

Manager of Community Rugby, Matt Tink, said he was looking forward to seeing the early form of the clubs.

“The Bankwest Cup provides the opportunity for coaches to test their players in a structured competition rather than an ad hoc trial and we’re delighted that so many have chosen to take part in an exciting concept,” said Mr Tink.

“The format allows for multiple clubs to play at the one venue and will give them an opportunity to have an early look at other teams and then structure their game plans accordingly.

“Ultimately the more rugby being played by these clubs, the better.”

    Too soon to say, Homer.

But by the looks of it, those clubs who have the numbers so early in the season to field teams in the pre-season comp will be the ones to watch.

I did hear a whisper that Rockingham have imported a new batch of good value Kiwis from their coach's old stamping grounds.

Palmyra better hope that Touch finishes soon so that they get a few more turning up at training.

Uni have massive numbers at training though went down to Cott on the weekend in the Bank West pre season comp, Nedlands are looking very strong on paper with a very tough line up and I think they will be the team to beat in 2011

The way our fields look right now, we'll play all home games on paper. It's a long season and very premature to put the mokkers on Neddies. Whispers say all teams have trained and recruited well.
