    Off to Toulon

I heard a rumour that David Smith is off to Toulon next year.

    Anyone know anything?

    this rumour:

Jombi19 is usually on the money when it comes to French signings, i guess that's the risk with signing the foreign marquee players, they have little allegiance or incentive to remain in Australia without the international representative opportunity.

I think Australian clubs would be far better off approaching the pacific islander players as there 'foreign marquees', they are able to still represent there country and considering the length of the Super Rugby season as opposed to the NH season, they would get more time back in there home countries.

So how many of the Rebels are 'marquees' or is this yet another rule that doesn't apply to the team in the sporting capital of the world?!?!

Ten, reducing by two each year........I don't know whether that means their marquees can sign up to a five year contract or not.......fact is, their scrum is rooted once they lose their internationals, since they'll only have Jarred Saffy and Hugh Pyle left, no wonder they're trying to get rid of Cipriani first!

yep definetly 2 years, Braid was at the Reds 2009 and 2010, likewise with Anesi at the Waratahs(2010 & 2011).

As far as i have heard, the Rebels are in a similar position, although from a continuity perspective, that would seem a little silly.

It thought both of those were two separate contracts though, definitely Braid who was off to the NH until he got injured late in the s14 and that contract fell through.

no, he had a release-clause that said he could go to the NH after one season, then when he injured himself the NH club pulled out of the contract and he smartly decided not to enact the clause

My understanding was they could only sign for one, but could extend for another if there still wasn't a viable alternative for the position...

Don't confuse me after I've admitted I was wrong based solely on TOCC's confidence in what he said!
