I was well impressed with the two starting props in the academy
What's the farking point of an academy unless you give them a crack??????
If they don't cut it, cull them but for farks sake give em a go.......then it's up to them. The loose head looked like a real mean bastard. I loved him. The tighthead was as tall as he was high. I really like very low, solidly built tightheads. Great rock to build a dominant scrum around.

You seem to have an un natural fascination with the blokes who are generally banned from Pizza Hut all you can eat nights. But I agree props do need to look 'ard. Kees meus was the master of Scrum Face (TM). Specialist coach?

The big difference in our scrum this year is that our scrum has been able to combine as a unit.

Last year we started out with Pek Cowan at hooker, moved onto Ryan Tyrrell and then finally settled Whittaker and Charles. Fairbrother and Dunning were new to the team and neither played to their potential. It was riddled with disruption. As soon as we had a whole pre-season with all 4 props and both hookers together the scrum lived up to its potential.

I think it will still be fairly strong next year. Cowan (for those interested is signed through to 2014) at loosehead with the possibility of playing tighthead, Ma'afu probably the starting tighthead, Longbottom able to play both sides and will probably start the season from the bench, Faulkner is a good prospect and ready for the step up- he played his way through Junior Wallabies sides- I think we are still waiting on PAE as to whether he will be with us next year but he'll be the goods in the future.

Yeah, it's a 6-second pause...until it's not. Frankly, its all over the shop! I would imagine the engagement is very much a timing thing. You train all week with a particular cadence, trying to time your engagement to get a jump on the opposition. Then you get some guy who decides he's going to add a dramatic pause between "pause" and "engage" for the fans at home.

I've read about test sides training with recordings of the engagement sequence called by their upcoming refs, just to get the cadence and timing down.

It's a shame if that's what it takes.
