U.S. rugby team scared of a canoe

THE United States rugby team has refused to travel to a World Cup welcome event aboard a Maori canoe for "safety and security reasons".

The New Zealand Herald reported the 46-man American party was to be carried down the Whanganui River to the September 4 welcome in a canoe paddled by local Maori.

But the American team, which will spend a week in Whanganui city before the World Cup, has declined the river trip.

The chief executive of the Whanganui Rugby Union, Dale Cobb, said: "The Americans were a bit nervous about the river journey. They felt there was some risk."

Tournament spokeswoman Michelle Hooper said team managers could decline activities for "safety and security reasons" and the US team meant "no disrespect" to local Maori.

I don't think it's the players that are scared; it’s the team management etc.

They're weighing up the good and the bad out comes of the canoe ride, players getting hurt etc, does the players insurance cover them? Possible litigation against the US Union if a player gets hurt… etc etc etc I suggest they have come to the conclusion that the idea leans towards the bad.

That's the way decisions are made by team management. Players say yes and management says, hang on lets analyse the pros and cons first.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
