The All Blacks have become adept at brushing away comments by journalists - a dumb, lazy, tipsy and largely uninformed lot - about their captain, but this one might sting a bit more: brilliant former All Blacks No.7 Josh Kronfeld has told The Times that he believes David Pocock has overtaken Richie McCaw as the world's best openside.
"A good No.7 can make or break a team," Kronfeld told rugby correspondent Mark Souster in a story about England skipper Lewis Moody's troubling knee injury.
"Look at David Pocock. He is the form No.7 of the world at the moment, a master." Cue the arching of eyebrows on one side of the Tasman. But the 54-cap All Black is clearly not the only one taken by Pocock's development, with the Daily Mail equally fulsome in its praise.
