    BLACK STRIP

I apologise if this has been done before...but I am in UK at the moment....I have been trying to find out the reason for the Poms playing in a black strip...no-one seems to know over here and the reason for it..alll the paper's said at the w/e was that the Poms played in their very controvercial (sic!) black strip against Wales...

    Does anyone know??

England have used a few alternative strips in the past: gray, red, purple (or maybe that was just a bad dream).

Until the RWC the only top nations which needed alternative strips were France and Scotland, so using 'other nations' colours wasn't an issue.

Soccer teams have long used 'away' strips with other teams colours and the famously sensible European soccer fans don't have a problem with it.

The ERU have said they got the NZRU's permission before picking a black strip; the NZRU have stayed very quiet during all this.

New Zealanders are just getting precious. Maybe the pressure of going without Bill for so long and the expectation of a home win is fraying a few nerves!

    my 2 cents on this:

    1) - Dont know why NZRU are moaning, never heard RFU having a whinge when the All Blacks wore All White.

    2) - When the All Blacks fail again @ the RWC and its England in the final they can wear there All Black jumper and the Kiwis will think they are supporting NZ anyway.

Its a win win situation for the twits over the ocean.

Stink over All Black World Cup jersey sales.

This was in the NZ Herald today, about a furore over the cost of the NZ World Cup jersey - available to overseas buyers at half the price New Zealanders would have to pay in their own shops

"Angry rugby fans are threatening to import All Black jerseys from offshore to avoid having to buy them at "rip off" prices from New Zealand retailers.
The Rugby World Cup edition All Blacks jersey costs $220 in New Zealand, but can be picked up for $104 on a US website and $122 on a British website, including shipping.

Adidas has blamed the cost difference on currency fluctuations and argued the jerseys are priced competitively."

I think Hertyrk if you read back a few weeks ago the reason is that Nike once supplied the Jumpers for the All blacks and they were the first company to take them off Canterbury whos supplied NZ rugby for many yrs I may have the dates wrong but it was around the 1991 or the 1995 worldd cup Nike put up 20 million to supply the jumper and got the deal then a few yrs ago Addias did the same and took it off Nike... The Poms have secured a very lucritive deal with nike but the conditions were that they supplied the alterniative as black in direct compition to the all blacks bit of sponsership money and whos the more powerful in advertising

Hope this clears up some things

I have found since my post, that England are playing in the "Black Strip" to raise money for charity...they are playing in the strip twice, once against Wales...last week...and once against Argentina in the RWC...any strips sold to "fans" a portion will be donated to the Poms' adopted charity....
Back to the white strip yesterday didn't help them against Wales....!!!

the only time NZ wears white is when the IRB requires them to as protocol demands but there have been times in the past when this has been decided by a coin toss eg vs Scotland in the famous waterpolo test at Eden park 1975 and in the next test as well in that year aginst the scots.

Interestingly the only player picked for the All Blacks ( and he only played in 2 tests against scotland in 1981) EVER to have only played in a white jersey for the AB's was Hud Rickitt, a lock from Waikato who had played for Queensland as well.

What a strange RWC - France in white, England in black.

But whoever supplied the Poms with that kit would be hugely embarrassed with how badly the numbers fell off during the match.
