Thanks for the explanations Sheikh.

I have found it difficult to get my head around the fact that a team race is won by an individual, the donation of the prize money helps explain why everyone seems happy with this. I've always thought there must be some disgruntled cyclist sitting in the peloton thinking that they are as good as Evans, Contador or Schleck.

A good time in the team trial is important for overall placing as although the race is over 3000kms and 21-ish days, the difference between winner and second may be as little as 30 seconds. A bad team trial time may not be able to be made up.

So anyone up for a bit of fantasy? Some TWF TDF fantasy - can you concentrate on more than one sport at a time?

No-one understands Phil Liggett's commentary - not even Phill himself! I do feel for him, though, he's got to fill 5-6 hours of air-time every day, and some of his pieces about the history the race goes past are brilliant. Of course, he's been doing it for 40 years, which helps!

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but just noticed the standings in the Criterium du Dauphine (the warm-up race for the Tour de France and generally a good indicator of form):
