If only JL played rugby as well as cricket he might be able to sort out a few Wallaby "stars" too....

Reckon about 3 or 4 years back most of us thought a certain qiuetly achiving Cantabrian coach would be the right man in the right spot to do just that.

There's a big difference though; the current Western Worriers team has been pretty much in the doldrums for quite some time and, even though they've just won a game outright, there was much under-performing in that match. Liam Davis is back to his usual form, the top order again showed how fragile it is and the Marsh that played didn't do what we all expect him to do.

If JL achieves what he indicates then there'll be a bit more pain before some glory.

I agree. But if JL tackles this in the way he has tackled everything else in his career so far I reckon WA cricket has a bright future just over the horizon

He is, was, and always will be my favourite cricketer for his professionalism and unwavering commitment to being very best he can be.

JL's job will be a tough one

To say WA have been in dolfrums for the better part of a decade would be a massive understatement.

One of the problems is the constant importation of people from the east coast who couldn't get a gig for their home state, sure it pays off sometimes eg Adam Gilchrist but what message does it send to player here in WA coming through District Cricket circles? I keep hearing from people that there are too many side in district Cricket and it has spread the talent too thin whether or not that is true I'm not sure

Liam Davis is rubbish - take his 300 away he scored last season and he averages under 30

Mitch Marsh has potential but potential doesn't equal performance

At the moment you wouldn't pick any of the WA side for the Test team and that includes Shitchell Johnson (unless the Test was being played at the WACA)

Wouldn't you think that the more teams give more players the opportunity to show what they can do? (A bit like having the 4th Super Rugby franchise - except that did work as a debutant provider for the national team)

That said, I heard Dunny (ex WA coach (and player) Wayne Clark on the radio recently saying that players picked for WA should be those who are the best in the state and the 12 picked should be those who can represent Australia. So it may be that CA has issued a decree that the Worriers cannot select "up and comers" who have talent to develop - they must already have developed before playing.

Totally agree - have never rated him at state level.

Doesn't seem to matter, does it? Both Marsh brothers should be right at the top of the runs aggregates for the Shield comp.

Sadly, totally agree with this one too.

I would have thought so as well, I'm not sure that I buy into that theory

Shaun Marsh is a myth, only played Test Cricket because of his last name. Played Shield Cricket for a decade averaging mid to high 30's. I guess the jury would be out on Mitch Marsh being young but in reality should be perforing given the massive wraps he had coming into the side

Actually I take that back, Coulter-Nile looks to be a good bowler as well but currently you wouldn't pick him. Deserved his gig in Aus A side though

Well thats something to be happy about. Beating the bigger basket case in Australian Cricket who before beating season this year had not won a Shield game outright since November 2010 (20 games)
