    Windows 7

Just got a new laptop and ATM Windows 7 is really giving me the shits. I'm considering dumping it after just 3 days and installing XP. That's their best yet IMO. The main thing that's pissing me off is how image files just show up as icons rather than thumbnails. I've sussed how to change to thumbnails in The Picture Library. But other stuff like folders I have with scans of my banknote collections etc are a different matter. Lot's of people may have stuff like this where the folders are a mix of Word files, spreadsheets AND image files etc. Anyone know a one-fits all fix for all folders without having to move all my old "My Documents" stuff to the Picture Library?

Second, is W7 worth persevering with for the sake of keeping up or should I go back to good old XP?

I've never had that problem. But I think 7 is the easiest to interface with by far.
I wouldn't go back to XP if you paid me now.

And if they are in the "Documents Library" do they show as thumbnails or icons?

reading this again when i'm properly awake, i still dont really understand.

BUT i'll give it a go anyways

have you tried selecting all and displaying it as thumbnails?

or even a quick copy and paste to put the scanned documents into their own folder. so there is no cross contamination of images/PDF/word docs and shizz?

it could be a chance to organise your files a bit better? i found i had to do a bit of that when i went from vista to 7

    Shasta,

start windows explorer, highlight C:, click tools menu item and choose folder options and then the view tab. first item in list is "always show icons, never thumbnails". unclick and click apply then ok/close.

over on top right side of the windows explorer window (just under the search bar) is a drop down list of display options. bottom item is "content". choose that.

Thanks guys. I think I did that in the photo library and they all show as thumbnails now. Couldn't do the same in the docs library. Will try again when I get home. In 4 weeks.

jono. I prefer to keep text files etc together with images in some subjects. Especially stuff like banknote collections. XP was very simple to change folder options with it's menu layout. I'll try your idea in 4 weeks too.

Icons Shasta, but I think that is because of the way it has been set up.

Yeah. Thats my whinge. Guess I'll learn to live with it. Also I don't really like the fact that the photo viewer doesn't seem to have the editing functions of the XP version - that I see anyhoo.
