We were warned to "use it" but what's your view on the disallowed try Ecky? Fair?

And the goal kicking. Beyond woeful. And the tackling, abysmal. And the total lack of penetration and creativity -- like poorly programmed robots running on half charge, each player seemed to make a ponderous beeline for the nearest tackler.

Yes; fair. In a maul you get one chance to get it moving once it's stopped. Which they did. Then they were told to use it. The ref says "use it" because it is much quicker than saying "get it out of the maul now because you have already had one warning and the maul has become stationary for a second time, so there's no point in keeping it in there".

Mind you, the ref could have said all of that by the time the lads got it moving again and over the line.....

Oh yes - I forgot to mention the goalkicking. Again.

The Force have created enough opportunities to keep the scoreboard ticking over in the last two games. Godwin has played well, but I don't think he's ready to take on the kicking responsibility yet.
How many more points are we going to throw away before they use a proper kicker.
Sias should be our main kicker right now, and particularly against the South African teams which he is used to playing against in Currie Cup.
Last night showed more than just woeful kicking, but it would be a good place to start.

Sias wasn't on there last night because of his brain fade kicking in the last two minutes last week. He has to earn his position first, before he will be a goal kicking option. Godwin's game play has been relatively good, but I agree, his goal kicking has been very poor. If it is a nerves issue it can probably be fixed - look at how solid O'Connor now is at kicking for goal

I agree. I do worry that Godwin's confidence will become strained if he continues to miss shots. There's probably a bit too much pressure on him as main kicker at the moment.
He should take some time out and play a more supporting role in the kicking to get his confidence up.
Sias kicked possession away against the rebels for no reason at all, which is concerning. But for shots on goal, I'd have to put my money on him (as things stand currently).

the laws states the ball must be "played" within 5 seconds of a maul being held up;surely the player carrying the ball moving forward is playing the ball?

common sense counts for nought in the eyes of the law and especially to pedantic little dribblers who became referees so they could bully big boys without getting their faces smashed in. Bad decisions are endemic.

The referee wasn't as bad as the Force second half performance however

    Rick.
    Where have you been.
Great to see you back with your incisive, cutting and forthright views.
Hear there's a quality bunch of players been attracted to P-B since the arrival of the new coach.

if the kicker aint kicking then why oh why aint he/they made to spend a whole solid fortnight 8 hours a day BLOODY PRACTISING!! FFS! Just practice and practice and practice!! Johny Wilkinson used to to do it even on his own on Xmas Eve! as the story goes. Surely we have a kicking coach!

The law talks about a successful end to the maul. So the maul has to end. It can't keep going. Someone can start a new maul, but the existing one must end.

    righto,the maul must move again within 5 seconds...in that case the ref should not even bother say use it,by then it is too late;
he needs to say it after 2 seconds to give enough time for the team to comply..i suggest this law needs looking at again
