LNP is dreaming if they think that we'll accept his plan when we can have a better one

Regardless of political views, anyone who's had a broadband fault before (ADSL) will attest to Tel$tra's copper network as being aged and creaking. The NBN's hugely expensive but at least it's visionary unlike the opposition's adhoc option.

Any members on the NBN yet?

    Whats the NBN?

3 years before I'll see it and I live 20 minutes from the city

the realistic issues of connecting an existing building to the Fibre network, is nightmarish bordering on buried in a box full of bugs.

no more than 'x' degree's of bends between junction and house
must have random giant plastic box located at specific location (not exactly what youll want on your fancy rendered feature wall adjacent the front door)
must have dedicated cable channel running from plastic box outside to router location inside, and must not have more than 'x' degrees of bends in cable.
    ...

Once it's running we'll all wonder how we ever went without it.

Just heard on ABC this morning that some company in the US are pushing wireless speeds as fast as NBN.

Frankly - by the time they roll this out it will be completely outdated. I do not understand why they have not gone for the microwave option. 300mps and readily available. Expensive now but when you add in economies of scale it is the cheapest option. For Perth it would be great due to the need for line of sight.

An investment news letter I get said something along the lines oF 'in 5-7 years we will have 5G wireless at 10GB per second - faster than the NBN (the initial breakthrough for 5G has already taken place apparently). 6G will be even faster. The wireless network will be installed anyway, so what is the point of the NBN?'

    Food for thought...

yep, however over VERY short distances... I'm all for the fibre to the premises,

With all the quotes about bends in fibres, i wouldn't be too concerned. I work with industrial fibres and the radii ar very small prior to degraded performance, and fibres are really quite tough.

I have done a network FAT where we had to try and break the link. we tied it in a knot and it never missed a beat.

moral: Fibre is the way to go!
