An interesting comment in the Roar article regarding the NRC

    http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/11/16...s-competition/

"Sadly Shute Shield Club Presidents met last night and voted to extend the Shute Shield in direct competition to the NRC in 2017 for no other reason than out of spite toward the NRC and a fear that their relevance is being eroded. It is so sad those guys can’t understand how some compromise can benefit the game as a whole.

We’ve just seen in Australian Cricket the effects at the top end when you mess up your pathway programs."

Now I don't know about the 'out of spite' part of the comment
but if true then these blokes really are self centered idiots.

Like I said earlier. If the ARU play the contracting cards right, the shit shield might find it completely loses its top players.

    Smart move Papworth!

96% of players would return if selected in 2017. 80% think the coaching is of higher standard than premier rugby.

Going to be hard for the Shite Shield clubs to win over the players in a choice between club finals for some players and a chance to push for a super rugby contract in a nationally televised, national competition.

Agreed, bet it lasts a year before seven asks for even more money to televise it

Still it hard to believe that the ARU doesn't have the final say in all this as they are the governing body, to be held to ransom by some self interests in Sydney takes my breath away.
All here love our rugby and it stinks that a selfish few can have the opportunity to ruin a good plan to consolidate our nations rugby talent in a competition that need some support.
