One "expert" commentator in that match won the award for dud of the week with that question about whether, when the tackler is in touch, isn't the ball carrier also in touch because they are connected.

OTOH. I've been totally impressed with Alana Ferguson. Her knowledge, insight and tactical analysis is second to none. In both codes. She is also unbiased. A dual code international I had no idea if she was a Red, Blue, Brumby or Rabbitohs. Until today in commentary in Wollongong for the Mungos where she let on its her home town. Even better - she's a blue.
Those other numpties at Stan could take a leaf from her book.

However the everybody hold hands and touch the ball carrier to put him into touch defence isn't considered in the spirit of the game

In fairness, it is not a well written law:
"The ball is in touch or touch-in-goal when...The ball or ball-carrier touches the touchline, touch-in-goal line or anything beyond."

It was also famously interpreted that way to prevent the Force beating the Crusaders year One.

Was it actually interpreted that way or just ruled in touch? I remember it but not in that sort of detail. I only do eidatic photos, no video.

It was ruled in touch, and a photo was published showing the boot on the line.

Nobody ever responded to our pointing out that the sock on the foot that was in touch had a red band at the top of it.

Clearly the ball carrier was in contact with something that was "beyond the touchline"

I thought the Force vs Crusaders Year one issue there was a problem with the clarity of the sideline.

The Video Ref couldn't see the Sideline.

The uproar here on TWF at the time pointed the finger at Subiaco GroundsKeepers who were obviously AFL Centric.

We might need a win tonight just to keep clear of the Rabble. Hardwicke is on fire and the Highlanders are doing their best to blow it.

Hardwicke had such a great game. Sad that he went just a little too far at the end.
