Drua Super clash shifted to Sunshine Coast

A flooded Suncorp Stadium has prompted the Fijian Drua to shift their maiden Super Rugby Pacific 'home' game on Friday to the Sunshine Coast.

Based on the NSW north coast, the Drua were set to call Brisbane Suncorp Stadium home to begin their debut season in the new competition.

However, the Queensland capital's floods resulted in the stadium being inundated with water on Monday, forcing the Drua north as they chase a first win when they face the Melbourne Rebels.

"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the adverse weather conditions in parts of Queensland and northern New South Wales," Drua CEO Brian Thorburn said.

"We've really had no choice but to move the game given the flooding and water levels in and around Suncorp Stadium.

"We've had to make an early call due to the significant logistics associated with moving a match only three days before kick-off."

The clash with the Rebels shapes as crucial for both sides given their one-sided losses in their opening two games of the campaign.

Anyone who purchased tickets to the game in Brisbane will be refunded, with tickets for the game at Sunshine Coast Stadium to cost $20, with children under 16 free.

Have been in contact with a mate who lives in central Brisbane. He's OK, but his apartment block's car park was inundated and they have lost power to the lifts (he's on the 19th floor, so getting lots of exercise!)

It's not as bad as the 2011 floods, but still going to take a while to get the debris all cleaned up.

We were there in 1973, our home in Fig Tree Pocket was near the top of a hill and we were surrounded by water and couldn't leave except by boat. Fortunately the rain stopped and the flood water receded.
