Great first up match for the Force.

    Game Positives:
The positive PR generated from Jeremy Thrush. You cannot buy this, tremendous to see the amount of postive content it produced.
The opportunity we were given to share the win on the field with players, staff , families and fellow sea of blue fans.
The positive play by the team and the ability to be patient build phases and score.
Despite numerous injuries they were able to play decent cohesive rugby.
    Winning a close one.

    Player Postives:
Feleti looked invigorated and Horton stepped up when needed.
    Steward looked good at 12
Hegarty was calm and cool headed and directed the backline.
Wells confirmed why he is captain.
    Callan gave it his all
Tiatia at the back assured, with some decent kicks and a couple of great offloads.
Pulu and Kiribridge both strong in contact and made metres.
    Spink continues to impress.
Williams a beast and must of been close to MOM
    Anstee just keeps giving.
    Kalapu does not stop trying.
    All four props solid outings
Fines looked his old self, sharp and dynamic.
Poolman did not look out of place.

    Overall a good night out.

Why not? not exactly a swinging arm, not high. You see this all the time, but from people who are much smaller (and hence, typically ineffective).

I am all for cleaning up dangerous play, but I think this is a stretch.

I was highly pissed-off at the ground but after seeing the other camera angle, your point is spot on. As we know, the whole reason for the current scrutiny of tackles is protection from head trauma. Shoulder charges gone wrong are among the main causes. When you think about it that tackle was pretty much the type of technique they are chasing; hard as you can get it, chest high right on the ball no head contact. Nobody wants to see the big hits disappear.

I knew in the back of my mind that we had always had trouble winning the first game of the season, but I was suprised to hear that prior to Sat night we had only won the first game ONCE in our history. It's great to start the season on a positive note.

Dead right. There was a rumor going before the game (during an impromptu mini TWF reunion) that there was a surprise coming with the TBC in the line-up. Had us all guessing - is it Rona, is it FL-W, Adam Coleman....... had they announced it beforehand it wouldn't have generated near as many press & TV reports. Well played sirs.

You mislead the forum on this subject by claiming you were only going there to look out for the ex-bookie! Sounds more like you're the one in need of a minder. Just remember that nothing good happens after midnight and even less after 70.

did anyone look at the advancing in front to the kicker penalty? i could have sworn that there were two people WAY in front of the players advancing, probably so far that the Ref couldn't see them. I think this gave the reb's there first 3 points.

In thinking back, especially to X's admonition that I've been down on Spink (which wasn't entirely untrue)

I'd like to state that defense in the centres was vastly improved for this game. It appears that what I was seeing was a cohesion or communication issue, rather than a lowest common denominator thing. Hamish Stewart and Sam Spink worked really well together. Bayley coming on and restoring the Trial pairing didn't seem to upset the applecart.

Now to hope Spink's hammy is good to go for Sunday
