I don't think lock is a surprise. We don't really have a bruiser. Remember when Timani came back a few years ago? No surprise we chalked up a few upsets from that point onwards.

Pleasing to see 33yo, 200cm, Lock Tom Franklin joining the squad for 2024.
Tom, a Maori All Black (9 caps) obviously enjoys playing rugby (as he's been around a bit - Kobelco Steelers & San Diego Legend in MLR) and had a long 85 game stint with the Highlanders (2014-2019).
We need a tall as Izack Rodda appears to be recovering from his foot problem.
Tom looked pretty fit and mobile at training on Tuesday.

    Additional comment:

I was impressed to see/meet Mike Cron - the Scrum guru - acting as a scrum consultant on Tuesday's training.
He's evidently working with the coaches/forwards for the coming week and is also involved with ongoing scrum mentoring with WF/RugbyWA scum coaches via Zoom meetings.

That is fantastic news! Someone steal his passport...

Can you expand a little on Rodda status observations please?

By that count they are up to 38.
Hopefully a Hooker or Wing to follow?

Was wondering if this means they have worries about Rodda’s return.

I think they still needed another lock anyway, I think Cron sees Williams more of a backrower. Hopefully Rodda is all good.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Williams get a lot of time at 8, especially if Rodda is fine.

Only played 4 games for Counties in 2023 season.

He has joined the Seattle Seawolves, and will be making his debut in the US and MLR, in the 2024 season.

(Note: He was born in the USA)
