Inaugural Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup Tournament

A lot of (necessary) sponsorship words before they cut to the chase!

RugbyWA Announces New Partnership with Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough for Inaugural Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup

RugbyWA is pleased to announce its partnership with Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough, beginning with the launch of the inaugural Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup tournament.

Rendezvous Scarborough’s commitment to the growth of rugby is helping to build new opportunities for clubs within Western Australia, providing the community with the chance to witness the best local rugby has to offer. The partnership with RugbyWA will see the group as the exclusive Naming Rights Partner for the Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup in its inaugural year.

RugbyWA CEO, Simon Taylor, is excited to establish this new partnership with Rendezvous Scarborough.

“We are looking forward to having Rendezvous as a supporting partner for Western Australia Rugby Union, and for the opportunities this partnership presents.

“We are thrilled to be working with Rendezvous Scarborough to foster excellence within the vibrant rugby community.”

The hotel’s Executive General Manager Rhys Challenger said the Rendezvous Hotels’ brand had a long history of supporting grassroots rugby in WA and was delighted to partner on the Challenge Cup in 2024.

“Our local community and the people within it are important to us,” Challenger said.

“And with HBF Park just 20 minutes down the road, we leapt at the chance to sign on as naming right’s sponsor and support our local competition.”

The Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup is a new 16-team knock out tournament which will feature 11 Premier Grade clubs and 5 Championship clubs, as they compete for the chance to win the Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup, Shield, Plate or Bowl. With three matches guaranteed, and four separate trophies on the line, there is plenty for the sixteen competing clubs to play for.

The new senior tournament was spearheaded by RugbyWA to facilitate greater competition and interaction between grades, as well as provide an opportunity for clubs to have more home games and events throughout the 2024 season.

RugbyWA’s Operations Manager, Jason Marrable, reflects that the Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup is an exciting new competition which will provide clubs with a chance to test their skills against different teams.

“The Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup was developed to provide more opportunities for meaningful knockout rugby, and to unite the Championship and Premier grade clubs in competition.

“It will be a great new format for rugby in the state, creating more exciting rivalries and stories throughout the season.

“I am excited to see the Championship teams have a crack at some of the Premier Grade teams.”

Buzz is building within the clubs, Marrable said, with clubs responding well to the new competition.

“Clubs seem to be looking forward to taking on teams they do not usually get the chance to compete against, as well as new away trips for some.

“I think everyone wants to be the first to win the Cup at HBF Park in June.”

CEO Taylor is looking forward to the new competition, and the prospect of seeing WA’s best across the grades go head-to-head.

“The Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup is a fantastic opportunity to show off the talent within the different grades and give all competing teams a chance to grow, creating strong community connections.

“We’re excited to see how these different match ups play out on the field.”

Play offs for the Rendezvous Scarborough Challenge Cup will begin on March 16, with one game each round streamed live on YouTube.

Fixtures for Round 1 will be released next week.

    Is this a 15 a side competition?

How do the proposed playing dates fit in with the Premiership competition?

Are the teams ranked for competition purposes, or will we have Ellenbrook or Kwinana (no disrespect) lined up against the likes of the Wests juggernaut?

Can we, the rugby supporters, have a little more information than "There will be a you beaut competition" followed by a diatribe of gobbeldygook and lame marketing spin?

Sounds like a typical RugbyWA announcement with little consultation with its stakeholders i.e. the clubs

The main fixtures are already out and this doesn’t clash, the first lot of games are pre season and then the finals are when there are no games on

But agree there could definitely be some cricket scores
