    England's new Coach

Ok, let's save the sledging for other threads, in all seriousness, who should the RFU turn to to guide the defending RWC Champions through to France and possibly beyond.
Should they turn to a technician (Ashton, Gatland, Mallett) to get things right, a leader (such as Martin Johnson) to inspire, or a organiser (Sir Clive) to try and knock out the cancer building in management?
Perhaps if Rob Andrew thinks things are so easy he should clear up the mess?
If you have a (serious) suggestion other than the six names listed then post it and I will include it rather than voting for an "Other" nomination.

Hmm, Rob Andrew could probably do the job. Although it would be interesting to see someone like Martin Johnson at the helm to inspire the players.

Interesting point, Sage. When the players reach that level of performance (and as much as it pains me to admit it....they are individually quality players), does it take a tactician, motivator or man-manager to get the best out of them?

Well I'm always curious... We have assistants and specialists for gameplans and analysis.. The coach should be up to speed on this too but the coach should be someone who the players and country is behind as well maybe?

I'm always doubtful why coach's get sacked ... the only reason I reckon they do is because it is the most public change you can make to a team which isn't performing ... i.e. why not get rid of a few players who are not performing instead of a coach who can't get his players to perform ?

England rugby as a whole is riding the post RWC03 wave not just the coach!!

I must admit that Andy Robinson would not be unreasonable if he felt slightly aggrieved at the way he has been treated by the england camp and some of it's players and ex players. I do think they need a change of coach as he has had his chance and not succeeded but I suspect that may not have been all of his own doing. It seems to me that there appears to be too many people with big mouths spouting off. Take for instance old Lawrence and his public campaign to get himself reinstated into the side, that sort of behaviour is extremely undermining and should have been stamped out at an early stage. Mike Catt, another old player, should have been shut down too. As for Rob Andrew, he is just as guilty because he is in a position of responsibility in the camp and should not be undermining the coach with public comments, which he did on a regular basis.

The whole debacle smells to me and I suspect there is an internal power struggle in a management system which is clearly not working and lacks a leader. I really wouldn't like to guess who will take the helm but whoever it is better be ready for a fight because they will be walking into the scenario of too many chiefs and not enough indians.

Unfortunately for england these "stars" have forgotten that it's all about rugby, the team and not the individuals, i.e. themselves.

However, as I'm your typical Scot I'm actually quite enjoying the whole affair and I personally hope that Lawrence Dellaglio (wrong spelling but I don't care) puts his hand up for the job and gets it as I couldn't think of a better guy to get shot down in flames.

What about the "who gives a" option Burgs??

It could appear that England and Australia may find the answers to thier coaching woes in the past. Sir Clive for the poms and Rod McQueen back for us.

Exactly what i was thinking tif, i would put it in my "Who is coaching Georgia rugby, and do they pose a threat?" post,as this is how much i care about the poms...I would like to see the bickering continue for months so as to destabilise the poms so they bow out early and show just how impressive they have been since the last world cup...Tossers that they are...Sorry Burgs, but i couldn`t resist the temptation...

Nah, I reckon it all seems a bit hollow kicking a dog when it's cowering in the corner
There are some very serious issues at foot in the RFU and, due to the position they hold in World Rugby, it is actually a fairly serious issue for the rest of us.
While I love beating the (expletive restrained) Poms as much as the next bloke, it isn't a particularly healthy thing for World Rugby for the "Home of Rugby" to be in such disarray and for them to be a pushover.
I don't want to beat somebody because we are not yet as bad as them, I want to beat them because they aren't yet as good as us.
As an aside, it would seem that their WC win has not lead to a new wave of talent coming from the Youth ranks.
It could be argued that Australia has benefited more from losing than they have from winning in '03, though that said probably a fair bit comes from the hosting as much as the result.
So yes, I appreciate the position of all the "rats clacker" type comments however as I said, perhaps we can avoid the sledge and focus on the sport.
I can even start another thread for those who want to vent their pent up spleen if need be

The RFU need to wake up,2006/07? Living on past glories and letting the game drift along, what do you expect? Dont worry about England sliding. The game has moved on from them. The Welsh and Irish(Scots to a lesser degree
have the pull. Who has the clout in cricket..not England. India. the game survives.
