But isn't that the title of the thread?

I guess what I could have said in fewer words was:

Right, now i can agree with you without a verbal barrage, as you are right, without being over the top...The title of this thread was perhaps too inflammatory this early in the season...Agreed??? There is a lot more work to do....

Tactician is the wrong term. Tactics are the use of resources at hand in a particular battle, while strategy is the overall means and plan for achieving a long-term outcome. Tactically he probably should have moved or replaced Mitchell in the first game, whereas doing that in the players first game for the club may have been strategically counterproductive (can't say I wouldn't've though).

Mitchell has never made any bones about which he sees himself as - the only ambition I've heard him state for this year is to see continuous improvement. I'd say he was well on track so far, but I would be inclined to agree that rigid adherence to a particular game plan could cost us games. What I'm hoping to see soon is the ability of the tactical thinkers on the field (captain/senior players/No 10) to change the game plan when necessary, and all of the players able to react appropriately.

Hmm - I don't think it is to early to start congratulating Sir John - at half time last week we were down and the lads came out with a new approach and won !

Agree with AndyS hopefully the leadership group will develop the confidence to acheive this on their own but in the meantime Sir John is in the dressing room - he is also to be congratulated on sticking with Henjack when most of us would have happily hung him not to mention Drew Mitchells lack lustre start to the season - he is a patient man - with more vision than most of us

I do admire his style, his poise, dignity and comparative silence on referees - for that alone we should be grateful

We are not worthy - just enjoy for now - who knows what the next few rounds will chuck at us
