What bothers me most, more than his Darth Vader without the mask egghead, is his delusion that he is a centre and not a second rower. Its just a good thing Australia rugby has so many softies like Jeremy Paul and Morgan Turinui that a wuss like Sharpe blends right in.

I truely believe the best 2nd row combo is the tallman/hardman duo. The South Africans do this best with the Matfield/Botha combination for the Bulls. At the moment Vickerman is trying to do both roles at once while his rotating partners play the "invisible man" roll instead. Much better contenders for the hardman roll would be Kanaar, Caldwell and Eminem. Sharpe simply doesn't have the right mindset for it (same as Baxter as Tighthead)

Give Bam-Bam a year or two, he seems to have the ability to attract the Refs attention and yellow card like the players you mention Nick.

Well getting the job done without being carded is preferred - Collins is pretty good at that - and not necessarily does it have to be a lock many a good Flanker or N#8 has worn that title too. There is obviously a fine line between a Jerry Collins who is hard and intimidating, I dont care who you are you dont want to be tackled by him, and a Richard Lowe type enforcement.

In fact a nasty, plain old mean bad tough mobile #8 wouldn't go astray... I think Waugh is a good example of a mobile but intimidating player, all three of the Hurricanes normal Loose Forwards (the Three bouncers) are also a prime example. I hope Bam Bam does get to instill that begrudging respect from the opposition - someone has too.

That's the best, and most accurate analysis I've read in ages. Its like you read my mind !

Caldwell and Kanaar just don't have that brutish size and power to play that role. McMenimen is a skinny guy who jumps at 4 and seems more suited to the tallman role.

We just need to get someone in there willing to have a go. I'm sick of guys like Chisholm who you don't even realise are on the field until they get subbed off.

Word from "near" the players is that Rudi Vedelago is one mean mother... in the tackle.
Haven't seen too much from him yet but he is normally near the bottom of the rucks.
At only 2cm and 2kg smaller than Sharpey he's no midget to be running it up, hopefully we may see him with a few steps to get up to speed before long as I reckon he would take some stopping at full tit!
