Melbourne lead Australian Rugby Shield into final round

The Melbourne Axemen have retained their place at the top of the table for the 2007 Australian Rugby Shield, after defeating the Queensland Country Heelers 7-3 in Melbourne at the weekend.

The Heelers led 3-0 until midway through the second half, when Melbourne outside centre Tori Biddle crossed for the game’s only try.

The win puts Melbourne four points clear of NSW Country and Queensland Country, ahead of next week’s final round of the tournament.

In the other Round 4 match, the Adelaide Black Falcons picked up a bonus point for their four-try, 25-21 win against the Darwin Mosquitoes, in Adelaide.
